The freedom to challenge and to pioneer is central to the heart and soul of Bruichladdich. Above all, we believe in authenticity. That a whisky should speak of the land and of the people who crafted it.
The Bruichladdich Islay Barley series celebrates the subtlety of terroir and our commitment to our Islay DNA.
Bruichladdich distillery was built in 1881 by the Harvey brothers. The Harveys were a dynastic whisky family with over a century of distillery ownership, including Glasgow’s Yoker and Dundas Hill distilleries. The three brothers decided to combine their expertise to build a third Harvey distillery: Robert (23) designed it, John (31) had the distilling experience, and William (32) had the money.
From inception, Bruichladdich has always been a loner. Unadulterated by perpetual scientific meddling, computerisation or economic “efficiency” - this is slow, manual distillation at its best. Where other distilleries have men in white coats with degrees in computer science we have head distliller Adam Hannett and his team.
