Glen Scotia 15 Single Malt Scotch Whiskey
CAMPBELLTOWN HISTORY IN A BOTTLE.
An exceptional single malt whisky matured from specially selected casks that deliver the true character of a 15 year old Campbeltown malt whisky.
In the Victorian age, Campbeltown was known as the whisky capital of the world - and one of the five distinct malt-producing regions of Scotland. Only three distilleries have maintained production from those heady days of the 1830’s. One of the finest is Glen Scotia.
Campbeltown or Lochhead as it was earlier known, was reportedly the ancient seat of the Scottish Parliament set up by King Fergus in 503AD. Indeed the site of the Glen Scotia distillery is built near to Campbeltown’s ancient parliament square. It is suggested that the Stone of Destiny, on which all Scottish monarchs were crowned, came from here.
Glen Scotia is one of the smallest Scotch whisky distilleries in Scotland. We are very proud of the fact that it still maintains much of its original design, including the fermenters, the stillroom and the dunnage warehouse dating from the 1830s.
Glen Scotia has always produced two styles of whisky; peated and non peated. Typically the peated whisky is produced over a period of 6 weeks per year. These two styles will be maintained into the future as they are characteristics of the Campbeltown style which Glen Scotia is known for.
Over the years the quality of the whisky has improved with longer fermentation and vatting of the malted barley as well as a slower and more careful distillation. But overall the process remains the same as it always was. Although we no longer malt our own barley we buy in Scottish malted barley to our exact specification in order tomaintain the true Glen Scotia character through our distilling process.
